Vehicle Description
Porsche 996 GT2 For Sale
The 996 GT2 is a rear-wheel drive only model created for the GT2 class racing that prohibited all-wheel drive. Two variants were available, the base model GT2, and the limited production Clubsport, the latter equipped with extra racing features such as a roll cage, racing seats, harness, and fire extinguisher, among others. Around 1287 of the GT2 model were sold for model years 2002 and 2004.
The 3.6-litre Metzger motor was lifted from the 996 Turbo but with some key changes, chief among them larger turbochargers, with the KKK17 items swapped for bigger KKK24 blowers and boost pressure increased to 14.5psi from the Turbos 11.7psi. The GT2 wheels were larger than the Turbo being 8.5inch and 12 inch front and rear respectively vs 8inch and 11.5inch on the Turbo.
The GT2 was 10% more powerful and 7% lighter than the Turbo. Weight was saved by using PCCB brakes, moving the climate control and cruise control to the options list, using lighter front seats, dispensing with the 4 wheel drive system, no rear seats and no sun roof and having just one radiator and substituting an in-dash CD radio for the Bose digital sound system. Standard equipment included power windows, central locking with remote entry, immobiliser and alarm. The transmission was the 6 speed manual from the Turbo but with steel instead of brass synchroniser rings, external oil cooler and injection oil lubrication. PSM was deleted. Racing springs and adjustable anti-roll bars were fitted. Standard ride height was set 20mm below the Turbo. The GT2 had larger lower front facia front air intakes, a one piece rear wing with air ducts and the wing angle was adjustable between one and six degrees.
Fuelling and ignition was controlled by a Bosch Motronic 7.8 system incorporating cylinder knock control, and there were twin catalytic converters. The engine itself has been fettled, and along with a light alloy crankcase and pistons there were forged connecting rods, Nikasil-lined bores and dual valve springs with hydraulic tappets.
Porsche’s VarioRam variable valve timing system was carried over from the regular 996, while the bottom end of the engine utilised the same dry-sump arrangement as the GT3 – itself derived from that found on the GT1 race car – but used a dual pick-up to ward off oil starvation.
Jasmine Porschalink present this long standing customers rare 996 GT2 finished in Artic Silver for sale. First registered in June 2004, the car is the earlier 2003 model but specified with the later GT2 wheel option of GT3 alloys and central GT2 caps. The current owner acquired the GT2 in Feb 2015 and he along with the previous owner, Rob Huff the ex World Touring Car Championship driver who owned the car for 5 years, have looked after this car with no expense spared. The GT2 has covered just 40,500 miles and has recently been subject to a £12,800 major service and refresh. It has an extensive main dealer and Porsche specialist service history going back to 2006 and an invoice file detailing significant regular maintenance and no expense spared care on this GT2.
This GT2 has a Porsche roll cage, yellow seat belts and yellow brake callipers over PCCB discs. Michelin Pilot Sport tyres surround the 18” GT3 rims being 315/30/ZR18 rears and 235/40/ZR18 front wheels.
The GT2 benefits from some tasteful visual and performance upgrades over the years including
· Carbon rear wing and mirrors, Carbon inserts inside on door panels, central console and side air vents and Carbon kick plates
· Recaro front seats
· Uprated intake system, Tubi Exhaust system, Hybrid Turbos with resulting power estimated at 550bhp
In June 2024 the GT2 had a major refresh for £12,200 including new battery, new brake lines and pipes, replaced exhaust gaskets and studs, new undertray, new clutch plate, pressure plate and bearings, ignition coil, alloy wheel refurbishment, removal of dents and repaint areas where paint suffers road spray debris, new brake master cylinder and calliper refresh. Accordingly the bodywork and mechanics are in excellent condition and the car drives faultlessly.
The next MOT is due July 2025.
The car comes with its original book pack, stamped service book, MOT test certificates, two keys, and an impressive file of invoices and valuations going back to 2008 and with a recent major service in July 2024 this car is ready to enjoy.
