The 2 door roadster made its appearance at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993. Produced between 1996 and 2004, its name derives from the boxer engine and roadster body style. The Boxsters water cooled engine is a flat six cylinder placed between the rear and front axles resulting in excellent weight distribution and handling. The 986 Boxster shares much of its design with the 911 996. The 986 Boxster started with a 2.5 litre engine offering 204bhp, before upgrading to a 2.7 litre engine. The Boxster S offers a 3.2 litre engine.
