In 2005 the Cayman S fastback coupe was first unveiled in 2005 and the base Cayman followed in July 2006. The Cayman and the 987 Boxster share their mid-engined platform and many components and design. The Cayman S has the 3.4ltr engine and the base model the 2.7ltr unit that was upgraded to 2.9ltr in 2009. Both models offer a 6 speed manual of 7 speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual clutch gearbox.
